Radical prostatectomy

Radical prostatectomy is the surgical procedure to remove the entire prostate gland along with the seminal vesicles and lymph nodes of the area.
The surgery can be done open (by incision in the skin), laparoscopic or robotic.
In open Prostatectomy an incision is made into the abdomen to allow the surgeon having access to the prostate.
In Laparoscopic prostatectomy the surgeon does a few small incisions in the abdomen. The camera (which provides for the surgeon a high-resolution image on a screen) and other small instruments will be inserted through the other incisions in the abdomen to do the surgery (removal of the entire prostate gland).

Robotic prostatectomy
Finally robotic prostatectomy is like laparoscopic, but all tools-robotic arms are connected to a device and controlled by the surgeon who sit in front of a screen away from the patient.
The application of the DA VINCI robotic surgery system for radical prostatectomy has impressive results for the healing of patients compare to open surgery and laparoscopic surgery and also:
• less bleeding-less pain
• Blood transfusion is rarely required
• faster healing time
• shorter hospital stay- less than 1 day of hospitalization compare to 7 days in open surgery
• Faster return to normal activities (15 days instead of 2 months)
• less risk of infection

But the most important are the operating results, which are:
• Less urinary incontinence. > 91% of complete urinary continence 1.5 months after the surgery compared to 60% 6 months after the surgery for open surgery
• Satisfactory erectile function, 60-95% (depending on the center) compared to 10-60% in open surgery.

BESDOCTOR represents one of the leading surgical urological teams in Europe in the laparoscopic and robotic surgical treatment of prostate cancer.
